Granted it is at 14k ft but a group of us planned to pedal up Pikes Peak tomorrow but it looks like they got a good amount of snow and the road will likely be closed to the summit. Winter is going to be here sooner than we realized...

In a sick sort of way I am kind of excited about winter coming, we did not get much snow last year and I miss it. You can always move south of the equator though!

Let's see...your latitude (Pikes Peak) is 38.84deg and I'm at 64.8....About a 3700 mi drive North West. I used to live in Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs. I used to fly hang gliders off a deck after taking the tram up Manitou.

It really is a small world. I did not know they would let you take hang gliders off the deck of the peak? That is pretty awesome. I am guessing north of Fairbanks?

no...not off the deck at pikes peak....if you go up the incline tram at Manitou Springs (assuming it's still there) there is or was a 20foot square deck built nearby to allow hang gliders to launch from that point. It was roughly 30 years ago so who knows if folks still fly from there or not.

I have hiked the incline a couple times and have never seen it, but was also never looking for it so who knows. Off the Deck at Pikes Peak would be amazing although likely highly illegal.
