Yesterday I was riding my mountain bike which has mostly just generic parts including the 21 speed twist shift. The right twist shift suddenly became lose and it felt like whatever inside of it that switches the gears came loose and now it just twists loosely. I pulled out the twist shift outer part to see inside and it looks like a thin silver wire is loose from something, but I don't know what. Is there a way I can fix this? If you need more information, let me know.

Take the whole shifter off and you'll see that the grip portion has a slot that a metal clip fits into, which ratchets against several teeth in the fixed side. The clip can be bent to adjust the amount of torque it takes to shift the gear. These things are simple, and you should be able to figure it out once you get it off the handlebar.
