Training & Nutrition - Looking to get a HRM..

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I was looking at Polar's website and going through the different models they have. Mostly the S-series. Anyway, I was reading through the specs on them and do some of them calculate total biking distance?
"Full Functional Cycle Computer/HRM - with hard wired speed, distance, and auto start" -- specs from the S150
Also, how does it keep track of HR when it is mounted on your handlebars? Basically I am not aware of how these things work.
Thanks in advance.

I have the S-510. The handlebar mount is about the same distance from the chest transmitter as the monitor would be if it was on your wrist. It keeps a running tab of total distance [odometer] and trip distance, and works reasonably well as a speedo and saves your max. It is downloadable to your computer, where the software gives you graphs like the one below [black is HR, red is speed], but it drops a lot of information on long rides, averaging out "data points," so it takes the top end off of the graph. I had a max HR on the ride below of 162 and at least two sprints over 50 km/h, but that doesn't show up on the graph, since at three hours, it calculates averages for two-minute intervals.

Thanks for the information.
Hi!
Additionally, you can go to www.heartzones.com and click on the moniters tab, and it will take you to a website that has a ton of all the different brands of heart rate moniters. I believe they tend to be a little cheaper in price.
Just something for you to think about.
