I got hooked on this site reading the Vintage threads and decided joining was a good idea although I probably have more questions than answers. I ride (road) everyday it's above 32 degrees (and dry) and am slowly approaching middle age (boy it hurt to say that - I may have to take a nap now). We're getting snow at the moment so no riding but plenty of shovelling, or alternately I could lube my drive train for 10th time.
Take care all......

Welcome to the forums Malcolm. Keep that shovel handy because it has snowed hard here but the wind has been blowing very hard, not much of this snow is hanging around here...it's all blowing directly east toward you...sorry.

Took a lovely and sunny 4.5 mile hike today in Cool Colorado. Lots and lots of bikers out, but my wife and I just wanted to hike.

By the way, just how old is that "middle age" anyway? I always wanted to know the answer to that.

Drop by the 50+ forum, if you like! We're still trying to find that "middle age!" :D

Thanks for the welcome, here I go.....
The snow kind of pooped out after my post so I sound like a baby. Nothing like what they got up North.
I'm in Powell, just North of Columbus.
Isn't 40 the beginning of middle age? I realize "your only as old/young as you feel" - not trying to start anything.
ColumbusCycling.com is waiting in another window as I type.
Thanks everyone.

It totally depends on your current age. To me someone at forty is still using diapers!

Welcome.

We have about 300 folks 50+ up to 90, many of them not yet "middle aged."

I am 65, by the way, and still seeking my "middle age." :D

AARP article....."60 is the new 30"......I'm 67, so I guess that makes me just about your age..... ;)

Hi Newbie,
Same here, Canton, Ohio. Looking at 10+" inches of snow. Only had one ride this month (except spinning classes 3-4 times a week and in the basement on my rollers.
See you at GOBA? (#262).

I was only refering to a numerical distinction as a reference point.
I did not mean to cast aspersions on anyone with regard to age.
I guess I'm still young enough not to know when to keep my mouth shut.
BTW, anybody have any DA 8sp DT shifters?
I'll stop now.
Enjoy your Sunday

schwinnbikelove is from Toledo, and I am in Bowling Green. Although, you might not like our tastes in bikes. We both ride fixed geared, brakeless conversions. Malcom, welcome.

Just joshing you a bit.

Sometimes we get folks who sign on with a handle something like "oldandtired" or "toooldtobike" and we find out that they are 35 years old!

Welcome again.

Welcome to the forum, I'm a former Ohioan, Cincinnati, and very happy I'm not there right now. I hate to rub it in but I rode 17 miles today in 67 degree temps. Tomorrow I'm skiing. I'm loving living in Colorado!

I have an old skool steel "non suspension" Miyata mountain bike I recently converted to single speed, just haven't had the time to try her out yet...does that count?

Hey Malcolm,
I'm down the street in Worthington/Arlington. Nice weather, eh?

I don't know if you've ever checked out Columbus Outdoor Pursuits, but they are a great organization that posts group rides, etc.

Well, I too am a newbie to the forums.... I miss central Ohio, I recently moved to Upstate NY (Syracuse) and there is more snow here than I have seen in the last 20 yrs in Ohio combined! Cabin fever has set in, and the trainer has been smoking with all of its use as of late!! Can't wait until about single digit temps!!!!

Look up the Cleveland Touring Club (CTC) for weekly rides starting in Burton.
Pedal to Presque Isle is a great ride, avoid the covered bridge tour (Mad dog ride) unless you have lots of pepper spray.
Enjoy
