Touring - Goba

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Is anyone riding GOBA this year?
Yes, my family and I are planning on GOBA this summer. Never been on it before. I heard that this year's edition is more flatter and family-friendly than it has been in a long time. I'm getting my bike ready for it now. Just bought a new Brooks Conquest saddle (actually I wanted that BEFORE deciding on GOBA) and ordered new tires. June will be here before you know it!
My only concern is the mileage. Although I can easily handle it I'm worried about my wife, who hasn't ridden a bike in a couple of years (this was HER idea!). We will be doing some bike-path rides this spring to get her endurance up, any info on this will be more than welcome!

I think I'm doing RAGBRAI (across Iowa) this year instead. I've done a couple GOBA's, and enjoyed them. Smurfy, check out http://www.smartgroups.com/groups/goba_rider
it's a message board of GOBA riders that has some good tips and soforth. My advice would be pretty simple, just get your wife on the bike for as many miles as possible before the event. After seeing 60 y/o women on 50 lb. cruisers, I think anyone can do GOBA w/ a little training. Ohio's pretty flat, after all...have fun and good luck!

Ohio flat? Depends on where in Ohio. Northern Ohio (where the glaciers came through)tends to be flatter, southern Ohio hillier.
Smurfy, there's plenty of time to get your wife in shape. Get Joe Friel's book "Cycling past 50" there is a training plan for bike touring.
I haven't done GOBA but I understand GOBA has lots of riders, 3,000, and families. I prefer TRIRI, smaller (300) but hillier. Breakfast and dinner is included in the cost and sometimes there are options of staying in Indiana state park lodges.
Since you're in Dayton, you can get a lot of hill training in the Cincy area.
