Yesterday a cyclist was hit and killed in Melbourne while going on his usuall Saturday morning ride. The car, a Holden Commador was uncovered in a ditch a while down the road, and the culpurt got away. This just disgusts me, that someone would run over someone on a bike, probably by accident, but is that much of a coward to ditch his or her car and run off. Later though, he confessed to police and was released withouth charges.

There have been so many posts about 'hit and run' drivers around the world, but when it happens so close to home, it really makes you realise that there are people like this out there, and we really need to look twice before crossing the road.

Here is the article:

But he is going to be charged on summons with culpable driving plus a raft of other offences .... as it quite clearly says in the article. The way you have selectively quoted gives the impression he is getting off scott free, which is not the case.

That is just wrong. What kind of law or justice is that?

Trekke, I suggest you read a little more closely ... he IS GOING TO BE CHARGED ON SUMMONS!!!! That is generally the way things are done in Victoria.

He is going to be charged, but that was after he got realeased in the first place, which is what I was trying to point out. But yes he is getting charged, like anyone would after killing someone, ditching their car and fleeing away.
