Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Italian NJS?

i ordered an old, mostly campy group off e-bay to gear up this sexy NOS guerciotti frame i picked up recently (blasphemy, i know, but i feel bad letting leaving all those braze-ons hanging :rolleyes: ). anywho, i was cleaning up all the parts when i noticed the bottom bracket actually used a sugino 75 axle marked NJS....i thought only english threaded parts could carry the NJS badge. i'm a bit confused. the full markings on the axle are:

SUGINO 75
MS-70 MW-70 LP
*NJS logo*

anyone have any info on this part or know where i could get matching BB cups for it?

well, maybe it's a spindle from an njs compliant bb, and the cups aren't njs compliant. there's no threading on an axle (other than for the crank bolts i mean, and that's standard).

I think that dolface hit the nail on the head, here.
There are no italian spindes, but there are italian tapers, which come around in '94 or so. Only the cups differ.
The grouppo's previous owner switched out the spindle.

i think someone just replaced the campy axle with a sugino one,

the spindle should be the right size for either italian or english BB cups, if it came with
italian cups for the frame, just use 'em

I have Italian threaded Sugino cups - and they are not stamped NJS. Just checked. NJS never spread over to non-Japanese products if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the correction...was it you that had mentioned it before? I knew i heard it somewhere, but I would rather learn of something's existence than wrongfully state is exists.

I read a 'history of Campy' page once that outlined their fight for NJS certification. Campy won eventualy, so Campy NJS must be out there

You are correct Campy had a group once. Very hard to get.

spindles can have different spacing, i believe. i'm pretty sure that itallian bottom brackets have a slightly wider spacing for the bearings...at least that's what i was told when i wanted to use my sugino 75 spindle on my italian threaded frame...

cause that can just be taken up with the lockring? all the BB's i've worked on have enough threads to handle at least 5mm of width.

2mm wider...i'm just repeating what was told to me in this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=71943&highlight=sugino+spindle). granted, that was me trying to put an english spindle into an italian frame, so the cups would've had to be spun in farther than normal, and the lockring might not have fit onto the adjustable cup after everything was snugged down...i wound up giving that sipndle away anyway.
