I was contemplating visiting by brother in So. Pasadena CA and don't really want to do any touristy stuff while out there. I have wanted to ride on the SART (Santa Ana River Trail http://www.santaanarivertrail.com/links.php ). I ride a hybrid bike and have done over 60 miles in a day.

The SART site is pretty lacking in information. Can anyone point me to a better site? Best places to get on it? Topography of the trail? Bike rentals nearby? Motels nearby to stop at? Hints on the flattest sections? Hilliest sections? Sections to avoid?

My wife does not ride and I really don't want to haul my own bike that far, so hence the rental. I had thought of having her drop me off at one point, continue on to a predetermined point and get a motel and I meet her there. I think 2 days of easy riding would do it, I don't want to bore her too much.

can't help with the rental question but as for the rest, the path is about as flat as it gets. Assuming you are talking about the paved section. If you start at Green river golf course it is about 30 miles to the beach and 30 miles back. Longer if you include dirt. There will be runners, walkers, skaters off an on while you are on the path. There is water and restrooms along the way and places you can leave the path and stop at a 7/11 or Circle K if you need to.

And just a small point. In Pasadena you will be far closer to SGRT next to the 605 rather than the 91. I know very little about the San Garbiel River Trail. The SART is in the Inland Empire and OC. Pasadena is in LA county.

Post in the Socal regional section & watch the info roll in.

I live about 1/2 from SART. It's a big drainage ditch with a path or two on the side. Convenient for getting from North to South Orange County. Scenery is limited. Mild slope toward the ocean, steady wind to push you inland. Don't ride through the Santa Ana section at night, roughly the area between the 405 & 22 freeways.
