Seller asking $300, includes Campy bb and headset. 59cm. Would fit me.
It's local--so I'll see it first, and no shipping cost.
Sounds pretty fair--what do you think?

I say buy it, especially if it comes with the headset and bottom bracket.

Thanks. I think if I don't see a dent, crack, evidence of crash damage or big alignment problem I'll buy it.
Also, just noticed this thread:

I'd say yes for sure. I would buy that one myself and feel good about the price.

If it looks straight and is dent free, it's a nice deal. Good looking frame set, and Mercian's are underrated in my book...

Thanks very much for the additional responses. As you can imagine I have a soft spot for the brand. ;)

I would be very temped. I need an older frame with long dropouts to put a Port a Catena chain carrier on.

Assuming the tubes and threads are in good shape, it fits, you like the color (or are willing to pay for a good repaint) and have the dough, buy it. Especially since you say you have a special fondness for Mercians.
Consider yourself enabled.

The KOM was a bust. First noticed the paint was pretty much intact, but badly oxidized and that defect did not show up in the photos. Not a deal killer, but a price reduction would have been in order.
But there it was--the telltale front end crash wrinkle on the botom of the downtube near the head tube. Might it have been rideable/safe anyway? I don't care--I don't bother with that stuff. There's lots of undamaged frames out there and those are what I want. And for lack of better words, this was a sharp, abrupt wrinkle.
In the end I offered him $10 for the frame only for a wall hanging. He accepted, but was then unable to get the fixed cup off (he had the right tools). So I walked away.
Too bad. But for the crash damage I would have bought it. I could probably have made the paint look much better with polish and wax.
Anyway, thanks for all your help!
