Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Most threads i saw where about track bikes...are there any singlespeed riders out there?
I'm building a bike right now and would be glad about some experiences and hints...
Especially in terms of the conversions...

I am building a bike that is primarily single speed. It'll be fixed gear sometime this year though. What information are you looking for? All the info with fixed gears applies for the most part, if you're using a single speed hub. If not using a single speed hub, then you'll have to experiment to get a good chainline. Let us know what you're putting together and we'll see what you can do. What kind of bike are you building?

See, i got this bike as a present, it is an old italian, maybe end of the 70s or beginning 80s. I wanted to get one of these, because they have horizontal dropouts. There are Pelessier hubs that i got with the bike and they are still very good, so i want to use those to build a new wheel (they have these special rims where you have to glue on the tires) Right now i try to get together all the smaller parts that i still need, like the sprockets (? i'm not 100% sure about the english words.), therefor i need to think about the conversion. I'll use one of the chainrings that i got with the bike. All components where campagnolo plus shimano dura ace brakes... Basically it comes down to the chainline and these things, because the rest i am pretty confident about finding out myself.
thanks for the fast reply.
Oh,and i also have an old bianchi frame, and at some point this year, or maybe next winter, i want to turn it into a fixed gear....that's the next project then, but first i want this singlespeed, to use it in the city. I have my koga-miyata racing bike that i want to use only for longer distances and training...
Yes SS riders out here. This link (http://www.mtbr.com/faq/ssfaq.shtml) should answer all of your conversion questions
