Hi! I'm new..but I've been lurking for a while.
Right now I ride a PH10L Peugeot, but I want a Mixte that I'll eventually convert to a single speed. I initially thought I would stick with Peugeot since I love my PH10L, but now I'm branching out on the Mixte market. I'm trying this Motobecane out later this week:

But from what I've read that might be overpriced? It does have a lot of new components...
I'm also considering this one:

What I like about the second one is that it already has drop handlebars, which I would have to do myself on the first one.
If you can tell anything about the year/model from those pictures, and the value, I'd appreciate the help! Thanks.

They both look like Mirage models, no chrome on frame. Wheels are the most expensive components. The Boston Mixte seller put new aluminum rims on the bike. The Providence bike looks like it still has chrome.
Since it does rain in Beantown and they use tons of road salt, the aluminum rims will provide better braking and won't rust.
You might try to get it for $200-$225, but in the NYC area, I can get $275 pretty easily.
If you do convert the handlebars, save the upright set, because in my experience, resales of mixtes with upright handlebars are more in demand.

In my area those are $150 bikes and wouldn't have a chance of selling (Philadelphia). I'm not sure what Boston is like.
Have you looked at Linus? They make an inexpensive single speed mixte as I recall.

The ones I've seen have been out of my price range. I don't want to pay over $200 for either of them, but I'm not sure how flexible the sellers are. Other CL mixtes in the area right now:
Raleigh $290 in great condition http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bik/3282330064.html
Peugeot, needs some fine-tuning $180 http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bik/3260892938.html < I think this one isn't worth more than $150
Older Motobecane, needs tune up $160 http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/bik/3270955137.html
The Motobecanes in the first post are definitely above average in price, but they're also more ready to ride.

Look at the sizes. Will one fit you better than the other?

Yes that's a big deciding factor! Not sure which size I prefer for Mixtes, so I'm test riding the 50cm today.

Hi A,
I figured it was you because not very many Peugeot owners would know their model was a PH10L!
Already a single speed, no pics:
