Hey all,
I have a new small issue with my bike:
If I stop peddling for a little while every now and again the chain stops rolling and starts to hang just before the crankset, it does this for a little while and then it rolls again back to life, it repeats this cycle sort of frequently. What is this a symptom of?
Thanks

Which part of the chain hangs? The top or the bottom run?
If it's the top, it sounds like you may have a problem with the freewheel bearings, or the bearings inside your freehub if you've got one. What make/model the rear hub?

Probably the freewheel sticking. Wash it out with solvent and re-lubricate. Or just replace it.

It may well need replacing, at my co-op we've seen two cases of cheap freewheels starting to stick, and in both cases, they were actually broken internally as opposed to just gummed up. It seems they cheap out on the pawls a little too much.

I have been cleaning all the parts this weekend and they were absolutely filthy! (I bought the bike second hand) On the day it seemed not to have made a difference but today on the way to work I did not have any more chain hangings... lets see if that made a difference!
