Hi,

My name is John and besides riding a bike as a child until I got a car in my 20s I didn't really get into cycling until six years ago. My primary bike is a 2011 Specialized Roubaix Pro with carbon wheels that really transformed how I ride when I got my original frame in 2009 (I had two frames warranted due to cracks). The bike I started riding six years ago is a mid-90s Bianchi Vento 602 I picked up in Italy when I was stationed there. Last year I turned the Bianchi into a commuter with the intention of it being a grocery getter, something it yet to become. I do use it to commute a couple times a week to a volunteer gig I have, a 25 mile round trip. It really saves me money I would be putting into the tank of my car.

I joined this forum because I'm contemplating doing a cross-country tour as well as ideas in how to make the Bianchi more comfortable to ride. I'm most likely going to put butterfly bars on the Bianchi to improve the sitting position on it. Being comfortable while I ride has great importance to me since I have peripheral neuropathy or nerve damage in my hands and feet. Anything that helps reduce the vibrations is for the better.

In preparation for the tour journey I signed up for a 'build a bike' course from a local non-profit, BICAS, to learn how to work on a bike. The last time I worked on a bike it had one gear and a coaster brake. I look forward to finding tricks to make my Bianchi a better ride and for information on touring.

John

Hey John,

Welcome to Bike Forums.

Toured through there in 2009. Great town to ride a bike.

Have you been on the Tuesday Night Commutiy Bike Ride?

It was fun.
