Tearing apart my fuji s12s

removed the axles, bearings are in good shape but there are rough spots and grooves on the cone nuts.

Can I find replacements our should I find axels with new cone nuts??

I would like to rebuild these instead of buying new tires

You may not find the exact cones, but you should be able to find a workable analog.

If you know the brand hub, try these guys (http://www.loosescrews.com/). They also might help you with an alternative if you five them the specs. including axle thread, OD where the dust seal fits, and overall length, though there's usually some fudge room on the length.

The ball bearings should always be replaced in my opinion, whether they look good or not, and make sure before you invest in cones that the cups on the hubs have an even, smooth track where the balls have run.

Head to your nearest LBS, and have them look for replacements for you. There are a myriad of cones. Make sure cups are good, or it will be a waste of time.

+ new bearings and grease are a must.

The older S12S came with 27 inch rims, and steel spokes. Cones are cheap, so as long as the spokes are decent, I would replace them. But I would not put a lot of money into those wheels. If you reach that point, just find some nicer used wheels with stainless spokes. I see them for sale all the time around here.

And just how do we measure shine? As one does not know to what exent the balls are worn I think it best to replace them. Anyone concerned about the waste can just toss them into the metal recycling bin.
