And raise you a Panamera GTS. For a quarter of the price!

Awesome day at the Porsche World Roadshow. Here's a clip of my lap in the Panamera.

amen.

For the price of a Panamera GTS you can buy a Jag XFR which can carry 4 people far more comfortably, and a used airplane.

Or I can buy a new jeep wrangler and invest the extra $100K :)

Well hopefully if you're looking at cars in that range + or - 100K in your portfolio shouldn't make that much a difference but sadly I'm sure most buyers are stretched to the credit breaking point.

Oh, I can afford it....I just prefer to spend my money on other things. A car is just transportation.
*Siu's probably gonna ban me for that.

Thanks for your concern, but it's not necessary. I just have to wonder why you see a video of a nice car and someone having fun and you're concerned about my dick. I can only wonder what it says about you, "bro", but I'll leave that unsaid....

I like it; I have from the first time I saw one. But I understand everyone’s different. I don’t like the Cayenne at all. That’s why we have different cars available to each anyone wants to buy one!

Well, at the test track, I doubt they’d allow that. Besides, his head is so big, I don’t think they make a helmet big enough for his big old block head!

I agree that a car is just transportation (sorry Siu!). However, some transportation is more fun than others! I won’t get one unless and until we work out a budget where we can comfortably afford it. No stretching to the limit for a car here

I have a Wrangler already. And since it is just transportation (again, fun transportation), it’s not modified in any way.

Not a big fan of the newer Jags looks. And had a used one some years ago that cost $800 for every shop visit, regardless of what the visit was for!! So that’s soured me on Jags anyway… finding an affordable E-type notwithstanding.

The airplane thing is a consideration, however. I’ve always wanted my own plane. For the price of that Panamera GTS we drove, I could buy a new LSA or, as you said, a used airplane and put some nice avionics into it and then some. But the plane costs much more to own and operate in the long run, so, when I get to that point where I can realistically think of buying either, it’ll be an interesting discussion at home… with a wife who doesn’t like flying.

I miss my wrangler!
Once the kids done with college, I'm getting another one.

Like most of his posts, it says he's a jealous dumbass. ;)

The Panamera has yet to grow on me, but I like it on paper. I'm a huge Porsche fan.

I can't deny owning even a LSA is expensive but there's nothing like being able to hop in a plane no TSA and take a two or three hundred mile trip in a couple of hours. Heck there are places now you can earn your full PPL in just 21 days.

I don't disagree with you one bit. I've wanted a plane pretty much my whole life. I've already got my license and instrument rating. I should get my Commercial done, too, just for the insurance break if I'm going to get a plane; all I need is to get proficient again, take the written and a check ride.

But getting a plane is also more of a commitment than a car of the same price. Hangar fees, annual inspections, fuel costs, insurance... those are all more than a high performance car's costs. That's why there would be some serious discussions. My wife knows I want a plane and is OK with that once we get to a point we can afford it. And my daughter has expressed an interest in flying, but a car at that price would be something she could enjoy, too.

I just need to win the lottery and get both! :twitchy:

Tracking-racing is one of the most fun things you can do in terms of bang-for-the-buck value!!! Having raced many different types of cars on the track for over 20-years, I'd have to say that while its styling may be suspect, Porsche is the only make that you can take directly from the showroom floor and hit the tracks without major upgrades. I've fried brakes on BMW M5, Mustang Cobras and even a Corvette ZR-1 (yes the one with a -dash in the name). Porsche is one of the few that come from the factory with Brembo 4/6-pot brakes, which is what everyone upgrades their brakes with when going track-racing (add $10k to anything else). Others needed suspension upgrades, engine/transmission cooling upgrades, etc. Jags won't last more than 1-hr on the track without something breaking or going up in flames.
