I know, you can debate it however you feel. But, I can say without a doubt that my helmet saved my head!

I had just finished a ride on a trail and was loading my bike into my car - an old 91 hatchback. Recently, the hatch has been falling down unexpectedly. Sure enough, I've got my head right under it when it lets loose as I'm putting my bike inside. All I felt was a 'dunk' - I was still wearing my helmet. When I took my helmet off, there was a 1/4" deep groove gouged into the styrofoam right at the back of the helmet - brand new Giro Eclipse :( I can't imagine what would have happended to the back of my head if my helmet hadn't been between my hatchback and my neck! Ouch!!!!!!!!!

You need to buy two things: a new helmet, and a new set of lift supports for your hatch. You'd be surprised how easy those are to remove and install lift supports. You'll need a strong friend to help, or a broomstick.

Do you really think so? It wasn't on the plastic part, it was the part that's just styrofoam at the back. I love this helmet - and it's very new.

Anytime the stryofoam has been damaged, you need to replace the helmet. I just replaced a brand new Specialized Chamniox after 0.7 miles of riding. Check to see if the helmet has some kind of crash replacement warrenty. Even though you did crash your bike, you were wearing it and it did protect your head.

At a minimum I'd be sure to have it inspected carefully, even if I looked at it myself. I'd try to make certain that the helmet didn't flex and leave cracks somewhere other than the mark you mentionsed. My guess, if you didn't feel your head trapped between the hatch and another part of the car, is that you just dented the styrofoam. I'd probably err on the side of caution though.
