I prepared a few anime shows that I knew he would like. I placed the first few episodes in English Dubbed versions (until the first cliffhanger). But all remaining episodes are original Japanese with English Subtitles. Buahaha... It worked like a charm. He's reading a lot faster now.

He just finished "Bleach" all the way to season 16 (like 350 episodes). Only the first 25 episodes were English Dubbed. And now he just started "Space Battleship Yamato" which is English Subbed since the first episode... buahaha \o/ victory! And he doesn't even know I'm the mastermind of this "make the kid read" conspiracy.

Nice. My brother says his wife learned English by watching TV as well.

For my nephew, the spur was a book of cheats for all his favorite games.

I'm not sure if that is evil or genius.

Well, it is a clever idea and very original. But I am not sure if Bleach is age appropriate for someone who is learning to read. You know, something about hacking and slashing with a big katana and all.

I did something similar for my son... back about 20 years ago. Worked then... he is in College as a Junior right now.

I am offended to be called a treehugger :)
