General Cycling Discussion - Cycling Avenger gets back at cager.

I know I will get negative feed back on this. I usually let this stuff go, but was in a feisty mood.

Rode a fast 26 miles and was headed home in rush hour traffic through my smaller 'burb. Was cruising up main road through town, St Rt 3 in Westerville. We have all had the goofy person shout or blow their horn as they pass us to put a scare into our ride.

Well a teenage boy and his mom passed me and this happened, teenager shouted at me and made me jump even though we as riders expect this to happen, it stills shocks us. Just their luck that they were caught up in traffic just a couple block up and not expecting me to ride by.

I did nothing but smack the back window of the car sitting and waiting for the light to change. Was juvenile, but I did get a kick out doing this. Made them both jump in their seats. Mom did not look to happy.

Fair and reasonable, IMO, and no harm was done. Did she appear to realize why you did that, or was she oblivious to her kid's behavior a few blocks back?

It never bothers me when teens shout something as I can never hear what they're actually saying. So I just assume they're saying something nice.

Were you taking advantage of those ridiculous new 2 foot wide bike lanes on westerville road?

How screwed up is it that the kid felt it was ok to scare a cyclist with his mom in the car. My mom would have slapped the ship out of me and then made me apologize.

I used to think that discretion was always the better part of valor, but if nobody says anything, then the idiots never realize that their actions have consequences, non?

I teach and am an administrator in a university, and it's sometimes funny when kids try to negotiate their way out and then realize that "no is no". They're stuck - sometimes a hard lesson in life - and if they didn't learn it in high school, well there's no time like the present, eh? :rolleyes:

And yes, if I was a teenager and did something like that with my Mom and Dad in the car, I'd be up the creek big time.

Did much the same thing to car load of wanna-be gangster types. The dipstick in the front seat yelled something stupid. Got him at the light and yelled right in the window. Then give him a librarian "shh". Car was in the left turn lane, I turned right. All his friends were laughing at him.

Mommy needs to smack the kid. Some riders are not nice people.

No. This happened closer to the State St. Post office.

Yes! I even pulled over further up the road to wait for the car to pass again. That's how I knew mom was none to happy.

I've considered keeping an egg in my jersey pocket for cars that buzz me.

Yep, me too. But mom was probalby on her cell phone regurgitating her latest nail appointment to her BFF and never even noticed her kid's behavior. Or the cyclist for that matter.

I once spit on a the passenger side window of a woman who was very slowly passing me (almost at the same speed) with less than 2 feet to spare when she had another lane available. Scared the **** out of her and she sped off immediately. I didn't feel bad at all.
