Tongue in cheek, but when I started riding again a couple of years ago this is basically what it was like in half the bike shops I went to.

Funny that. And truer than many would like to admit. Reminds me of my visit yesterday to the local bike shop. I'm putting together a '96 Specialized Ground Control. It retailed for $1,100.00 back then. I got it for $20.00 After I picked my $7.00 inner tube I was curious to know what $1,100 could get you nowadays. The sales guy looked horrified. Maybe some of the entry level hardtails, he said nervously. He was a bit queasy at the idea of me fixing up the Ground Control with the idea of riding it. I left before I did any more damage.

I have nothing against racing, new technology, or high-end bikes. This shop seemed to cater to the upper end of the market. God bless the guy (or gal) who can drop $6,000 on a bike. 16 years from now, I'll be buying it for $20.
