So, our first son, Isaac is 8 lbs, 13 oz and was born yesterday at 4:59pm. He is 21 in long. Can anyone recommend a good size of bicycle for him?

His birth didn't go exactly as planned. He fooled four midwives into thinking his head was down. We had an ultrasound at 41wk and found out he was a surprise breach baby. Consulted with the OB at the hospital and he scheduled us for a C-Section that afternoon.
Not the way we planned it, but he came out perfectly healthy and fine none the less. Momma is doing well too.
I think he would ride a size AWESOME!

After way to much thought and calculating, I would suggest a 22cm frame. Congrats!!!

You need a Strider Balance bike, a Burley, and a Weehoo.
Along with around three trikes and various other pedal powered toys. Yes, my garage is packed with my sons stuff.

Congrats!!! Just put him knapsack on your back and peddle around the yard.

I'd go with a little big wheel first. Those things were awesome as a kid....and since that kid is awesome, the two should go great together.

A recumbent? Take that back.

Balance bike >>>>>> Big Wheel.

Get him some patchouli to go with it.

This bike ought to fit. Don't forget a helmet.

But be careful, you know how quickly babies outgrow everything.

Thanks everybody. We've decided, for now, crawling will have to come first. As much as I think he could ride a bicycle already, mama isn't so convinced.
Congratulations on your first-boy!
Is he your first born?
Yes. We're just so enamored by him.

Thank goodness that you discovered the breech prior to labor. That really gets the heart rate of the midwives up.

Our second baby totally confused our midwife. She did the feeling-up thing to determine the position and it wasn't conclusive. So she was sending my wife in for an ultrasound every other week towards the end and had a full list of breech-inversion exercises to do, most of which induce nausea in extremely pregnant women. As it turns out, the baby was in some wacky breech position with one foot in front of her face and one straight down. One way or the other, she turned over just in time.
Best wishes for Mommy's speedy recovery.

Oh, yeah, and get him a Strider. Our boy absolutely loves his.

I just had to order a longer seat post for my son's. Also got him the brake kit, which he refuses to use. Tearing up shoes is more fun. :bang:

I ordered the seat post and brake at the same time as the strider... when he was about 14 months. I jumped the gun a little, but at 2.5 years old he is a machine on it.

Momma is making speedy recovery and baby is fine. We're at home now.
I fixed the pic too.
Thanks everyone for warm wishes!

If you get him a recumbant, aka Big Wheel, he will need the baby sized Birkenstocks to go with it. Yeah, that and a fake beard. If you can't find a fake beard that small, use your wife's eyeliner pencil to draw one on him.
and congrats too by the way. The little guy is very cute.
I haven't got the balance bike yet. I do have three different sized childs bikes and have just acquired a vintage (70s early 80s) trike (complete with trailer and parental control handle). I've got an genuine antique child's seat mounted on my old Humber Sports three-speed. On the list to get is a steel balance bike, preferably the type that can be converted to a small child's bike. I'll also need to get some trainer wheels and a helmet. Sam has just turned six-months old and is almost at the roll-over stage. I've got time to get more bike stuff.
Isaac is a giant. Sam was 5lb 6oz when he was born, but he did arrive a month early.
The hat has to go because A) it certainly is not aero and he hasn't the guads or 400 watts to overcome it and B) it ain't a helmet. Congrats!!
Until his sense of balance develops... I think he'll be better on a trike.

We had a neighbor give us a trike, too... but the Strider is #1 for the boy. I resolved a looong time ago, no electric self-propelled toys and nothing with a handle after he got out of the stroller.

All that really matters.
First born too?
Boys are easier.
Enjoy being a DAD.

I thought the same thing, then Grandpa and Grandma showed up with a power wheel.
My son does love his balance bike, and the neighbors after seeing my sons, got theirs one too. Those two are freaking nuts on them. The other boy four houses down looks sad when they are out on them since he only has a big wheel and comes no where near keeping up and his the oldest of the three by several months.

My son ended up selling the almost-4-year-old across the street a Strider a few months ago. Her dad got her a regular bike that was WAY too big (16"), and after watching the boy, she had to have one. They have done some rides together. The other toddlers on the block don't get out often enough or just get pushed around.
