Hello everyone,

Would you recommend the following rear wheel for a heavy cyclist (275 lbs), for use as a daily commuter doing around 15 miles on good pavement? Keep in mind that I'm super careful and have managed to clock more than 1500 miles on a Rigida X19 rim without any problems so far.

Having a reputable shop tension, stress relieve and true the new wheel would be a worthwhile investment.

+1. And congratulations on deciding that a 36 spoke wheel is not the equivalent of dragging around an anvil.

Yes. The only thing better would be double butted spokes.

If this is done, even low-spoke-count wheels will hold up to the extra abuse of a clydesdale.

I weigh only 30 pounds less and have a similar set I have ridden for 5 years off road without any need for truing. high - evenly balanced tension is very important for wheels of heavy riders. Most if not all lower priced wheels are machine build and are usually questionable where tension is concerned. Have it professionally tensioned before you ride it for maximum life.

I agree that this is a decent wheel for your purposes. Other than build quality, the only thing I'd like to see is an upgrade to butted spokes. This increases the spokes' elongation an the same tension. It isn't a problem for the right side, but the left side typically has only about 60% of the tension of the right (a unavoidable consequence of geometry), so even with the best of execution the left side spokes will not be stretched enough to always be under tension as the loads vary. Butted spoke greatly increase the resiliency, and therefore, life expectancy of wheels.

You might ask the vendor if such an upgrade is possible.
