Hi all, quick question: I overhauled my hub today and found the freehub side bearing grease full of metal filings . They'd come from the outside of the labyrinth seal ring, which had been grinding against something... maybe the freehub body?

The part in question fits between the lockring and the cone and is visible at 2m 37s into this video:

On my bike the metal labyrinth seal plate was floating freely. I'm guessing it is supposed to be press fit onto the freehub? What could have knocked it loose? I snugged it against its rubber seal and reinstalled it, for now...

The only culprit I can think of is the SunRace 9sp cassette I'm using... wonder if there might be some interference there?

The video doesn't explain anything about the adjustment of the bearing preload. It's very important for bearing life.http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/hub-overhaul-and-adjustment Also:http://draco.nac.uci.edu/rbfaq/FAQ/8c.7.html
