So I am having to down sized my car from a Lincon Town Car to a old VW Bug. Its not running yet, but I am trying to figure out how to get the bikes on there. I can't use the roof. It already is being used for a rack and camping eq.

Define "old", old as in old air cooled bug or old as in an early model water cooled FW drive new beetle?

Hitch?
Looking at that. But I am not sure if you can put a hitch on a bug?

Draw-tite, Curt and Hidden Hitch make hitches for a '71 bug.

It'd be better to just tow the bug with your bike.

I know how to put 4 elephants in a Volkswagen.
2 in front and 2 in back.

Re think Roof rack.. I moved 5 bikes on the roof of my 68 SAAB 96..
3 rails.. 2 wide , 1 narrower..
back one attached to the edge of the hatch-back hatch..
between the front rails I had the space that would have been bike #4..
2 bikes on the ends, one right center, the basket tray on left center,
2 more bike tray from rear roof rail to hatchback rail.
speed was kept around 50mph, driving ..
so wind resistance /fuel consumption with in reason.

With a load on the roof and a bike rack on the back, 50 mph will be WFO.

picture is obviously generic. don't know how this thing will bolt on as there isn't a lot to bolt it to. the engine is cantilevered off the front by the horns of the pan and the rest of it behind it is kind of just floating there in space.

check out a Saris bones three bike rack, it fits pretty well on current hatchback cars -perhaps not much different than the back of a real beetle ?
Three bikes on a hitch rack might require some ballast in front to keep the wheels on the ground.
