From an ad for some potentially crappy cheapish wheels on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Retrospec-Bicycles-Super-Deep-V-Wheels/dp/B006A9YRAY/ref=pd_sim_sg_5). Do people actually ride with the stem backwards, or is that a hilarious ad fail (or both)? :notamused:

It's advertising that the frame can barspin.

No matter what your post is about, the answer is going to be yes.

Vague titles FTL.

Aah, that makes sense. Are those wheels any good?

good for what? sinking a boat?

sure.

If the wheels sink a boat, it'd have to be a boat of significantly worse quality than the wheels themselves. I was thinking more about, you know... rolling well in a predictable fashion for awhile.

point was that they're really heavy. boat anchors.

+1 If you can think of it there is somebody out there who is into it.

Yes, I'm pretty sure that is a thing of some kind. In fact, after looking at it some more, I am 100% certain.

I'm going to go ahead and say it is not a thing, just for the sake of opposition.

Does the particular exhibit thing-like properties?

striknein

Can you touch it, or is it otherwise perceived?

GMJ

Is its existence inherent in itself or dependent on our perception of it?

This is completely a thing.

Forget what I was talking about earlier, it was pretty late for me, was delirious.

That's definitely a thing.

How can one person imperically prove that this thing is in the world, making it a real thing, and not just a thing in one's own mind, making it just a mind thing?

I can see it, too, if that helps.

Of course he's not real. He's probably just virtual.

How can one person imperically prove that this thing is in the world, making it a real thing, and not just a thing in one's own mind, making it just a mind thing?

Then you're asking the questions is it possible there is a mind-independent world as well as absolute certainty/proof.

****in meta dude..

Definitely not meta, pretty sure it was a movie....

OP did not ask if that was a thing, as you say. He asked if this is a thing. This is the singular proximal demonstrative pronoun. That is also a demonstrative pronoun. Or adjective. Or adverb. Or a lot of things.

After taking a several month break from BFSSFG:

But seriously... It seemed like there used to be a ton more discussion on here and now pretty much the only posts that get more than a page of responses are joke threads.

It's hard to seriously discuss such thought-provoking questions as "Is this a thing...?"

From what I'm seeing, when people have actual issues, there are certain people who help and give solid answers.

Also, seems like there's a run of similar questions popping up right now. Help choosing an entry bike (of course), pedal straps, wheels, etc.

School is back in and everyone wants to buy a sick fixie to ride around campus on. It happens every year to some extent but this year is the worst.

Ahh that makes sense. I'll tough it out til winter when we can all start roller threads and ask about putting finders on high end track bikes

It's just that fixed gear "culture" is everywhere now. Even at WalMart.
