My first charity ride today, 23 mph NE wind and heavy rain :(

Still it was only 12 miles, and I finished it earlier than most of the kids who were riding with their parents. Next year I must get to the start line earlier, so that I don't spend the first five miles crawling behind cyclists going at a pace I find uncomfortably slow.

I'm hoping to get a place on the group from work who'll be doing the London to Brighton this year.

Hi RichardD

We have the same weather here today...
Can you tell me where I could find out about rides
in the UK?

Cheers

Mine was just locally advertised. There's quite an active Audax group over here - try pmail StewartP - he's a regular audaxer.

Edinburgh Cycles Cooperative (can't recall the website) do rides north of the border.

www.Bikemagic.com is good for MTB events.

And to avoid those who only ride a bike for charity. i nearly got taken out twice on Glasgow-Edinburgh by people who were not used to cycling in crowds and were tripping over each other.

How does a charity ride work? Do you have to find sponsors that pledge mony per distance? Or is it just to make people aware of the cause?
Thanks

Over here it's a case of finding sponsors. This one was organised by volunteers and funded by a local firm, with sponsorship going to any local charity of the riders choice. Some are organised by a specific charity.
