so i've had a set of dura ace 7701's for a while, and they've been beat up and rubbed up(dura ace logo is no longer there). I was thinking about polishing them up, but im working on a new build where the parts are mostly black, and i was wondering if there was a safe way to powder or paint the cranks? or should i just polish them up, and have polished cranks but black everything else?

powder coating will come out bad, because they're aluminum. you can polish them, or use a wet paint.

Nagrom is a pro at polishing stuff. Maybe he can give you some pointers.
edit: too late!

Cranks aren't hard, I polished my 7710's.
you know, its just hard to take a matte black finish, and try and take it to a mirror finish, especially when its a big ass rim.... hahaha.

um, pretty much all of it will if you don't do it professionally. take it to an autobody shop or something.

aluminum can be anodized right? there a place that professionally anodizes stuff a couple miles from my house, im sure it'd be super cheap to do a small job like some tiny crank arms

That'd be the route to go.

Let us know how that goes. What do you consider super cheap?

ETA: most places won't ano used parts. Things need to be super clean before putting them in the tanks. Cranks pick up a lot of crap in the the threads that could be hard to clean out to the satisfaction of the person in charge. But as I said, update us.

They will probably media blast it beforehand.

You can also use a dremel with the polishing wheel, and some toothpaste.

I'd stay polished if I were you. Polished cranks generally can suit any build while black cranks, not so much.
