I have to pick only one? are you kidding? If you only have one Floyd fave, you aren't a fan. 'Nuff said.
Floyd made albums. Not singles.
my faves in order:
1. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
2. the Wall
3. Dark Side of the Moon
4. Animals
5. Wish You Were Here
6. Meddle
I could pick singles off the albums that I didn't like entirely, and favorites off those I listed above, but I couldn't possibly pick just one that was my favorite. I would go nuts.
Personally, I wish Syd had done more with the early band. And since Roger quit, well... hmmm.....
Have a Cigar, Money, Wish You Were Here

Listened to The Wall more times than I can remember during power training sessions.
By the time "Comfortably Numb" came on, I was - at least in the crotch (Brooks saddle).

Too true. There was a feature in Aus not long ago about them. The guys have aged well... or as well as they could.
My fav is not an album or single, but the video of the Berlin Wall concert. Totally awesome.

And not, technically, the Floyd. That was a Roger Waters project, put together after he left Pink Floyd.
And yeah, in their Golden Age (Dark Side-The Wall), Pink Floyd made albums but before and after they produced plenty of songs and singles. Even Meddle and Atom Heart Mother have no unifying theme.
Anyone want to discuss the worst of the Floyd? I'd put my vote in for either the unlistenable studio disc of Umma Gumma (I like the live disc) or The Final Cut (with the exception of a couple of songs).
Dude the wall is one F*CKED UP MOVIE! I watched about half of it and it is really messed up. Its a really good movie but messed up.

3.) Meddle
4.) Dark Side of the Moon
5.) Piper at the Gates of Dawn
6.) A Saucerful of Secrets
7.) The Wall
8.) Other stuff (Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Final Cut, etc.)

I agree, RG... I used to love Grantchester Meadows, but the tape loop of the bird chirping kinda gets on my nerves now.
You also make a good point about Meddle.
My favourite albums list is a bit more solidified:
1.) Animals
Their 'version' of the lord's prayer in the background of Sheep is great:
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want He makes me down to lie Through pastures green he leadeth me the silent waters by With bright knifes he releaseth my soul He maketh me to hang on hooks in high places He converteth me to lamb cutlets For lo, he hath great power, and great hunger When cometh the day we lowly ones Though quiet reflection, and great dedication master the art of karate Lo, we shall rise up And then we'll make the buggers eyes water

Allow me to resurrect this thread. When people ask me what my favorite band is (another impossible question) I always include Floyd. I am not real crazy about the stuff after Waters left the band but it’s still all good. I was not crazy about Gilmour’s solo stuff either. But I mostly like the raw sound of there older material especially in the days of Barrett. And I am definitely a fan of Barrett’s solo stuff. Has anyone heard the soundtrack to the movie ‘Moor’? It has some obscure gems on it. I also have a boot leg with a song called ‘Singing a Song in the Morning’ and a beautiful way out live version of 'Interstellar Overdrive'. One of the great things about Floyd as a band was the way their sound was produced. And as a guitar player my self I am amazed at how Gilmour puts together solo’s. He achieves an elegant simplicity of notes through complex texture and overtones. In the recording studio he set up and used his own effects live while recording, typically engineers like you to record dry and blend in effects but Gilmour had his own vision. Anyway Floyd goes down in my book as one of if not the all time greats.
Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here
Has anyone got Pink Floyd- Delicate Sound Of Thunder on DVD?
There's so many Pink Floyd songs I like... however, my favourite would have to be "Learning to Fly". ;)
BTW, anyone gotten one of these yet?

I'll put in another vote for Dogs. The whole Animals album is great. I never got burned out on it like I did with Dark Side & The Wall.
I really like the dark side jersey, might have to actually buy
one of those.
I have Delicate sound of Thunder on VHS, have to transfer it over
to DVD one of these days.

I think they were modeled on Fascists/Nazis, as opposed to communists.
With all the WWII undertones in 'the Wall', that's what I've always assumed.
The crossed hammers resemble the swastika, and the red/black/white color scheme emphasises that theme.
Of course, the symbol also resembles the 'hammer and sickle' of the Soviet Union,
and they were the 'red' army, after all...
... not to read too much into Roger Waters' symbolism or anything...
It'll make you go

Dark side of the moon album, it never gets old.
"According to the December 1, 2001 issue of Billboard, Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon has been on the charts for an astounding 1,285 weeks. That's just under 25 years! Its closest rival is James Taylor's Greatest Hits, checking in at 573 weeks on the chart. James can expect to reach Pink Floyd's record number in about 13 1/2 years.
We found some great information on Pink Floyd at the Hollywood and Vine web site. The album spent 724 weeks on The Billboard 200, including 591 consecutive weeks from 1976 to 1988. Then in 1991, with the institution of the Pop Catalog chart, the album returned the chart where it has resided for the past 10 years almost entirely in the Top 10."
yah, I think its more a reference to Nazi Germany than
to communist Russia (BTW its Commie ).
In the movie pink is shown in blackshirt, with jackboots
in a very nazi like rally. There are overtones of Krystallnacht (sp?),
the early nazi rallies etc.
The entire movie is really a reconcilliation of world war II (well that's
my thoughts on it) by Pink (waters?).

is this going to turn into a 'what kind of razor & technique does everyone use to shave their eyebrows' thread, is it?
anything from Animals ....who was dragged down, by the stone.
anything from Wish you were here ....we're just 2 lost souls, swimming in a fishbowl....year after year...
I'm just getting in-to Pink Floyd. My favorite song is "Dogs".
thats it!

Listened to Wish You Were Here a few more times lately and that is a damn fine song.
And did you exchange
a walk on part in the war
for a lead role in a cage?
