Texas Regional Rides and Events - Independence Ride - Wallis, TX November 3rd Come out and support our veterans!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

The ride is organized to help disabled veterans from the Gulf War (Iraq and Afghanistan) regain their independence. The ride came from a humble beginning 6 years ago and is currently a joint effort led by three Houston area cycling teams and hundreds of volunteers. We bring disabled veterans in from across the country and set them up with cycles that suit their disabilities and then support them as they ride in the event just like all the rest of us. They rode 12 miles under their own power. Many other veterans participated and rode varying distances.

This year we hope to attract as many as 700 able bodies cyclists from the Greater Houston area to ride in the event and help with the cause. All of the funds raised that don’t go directly to the expenses for these veterans on this weekend go directly back to the Independence Fund where they can be used to provide bicycles, high-tech wheelchairs and many other items that will help these veterans regain at least some of their independence.

Sponsored by Schlumberger Cycling Club (my club) and the ConocoPhillips Bike Club
