Alright fellas, trying to upgrade my Super Le Tour. I saw the Eighth Inch thread about their conversion kits. Just wondering what your guys' take on it is, I saw the posts and some of them were less than accepting. Are there other setups floating around out there that are around the same price? Or is the alternative just purchasing the bits myself and piecing it all together. Thanks in advance.

Seems like a pretty good deal to me. The only thing I'd be iffy about is the loose bearing hubs in the wheelset.

Single speed, fixed gear... What are you trying to accomplish?

When I switched my geared bike to my first fixed gear I just bought a rear wheel and a chain ring.

Sorry, I should have specified. I am going for a single speed setup. The reason why I want to buy rims in the conversion because my back rim (steel) has a huge jump in it that I can't even run a back brake. I'm leaning toward the Eighth Inch just for the price and the items included.

what do you actually need for a SS conversion? Wheels (you can get loaded wheels on bike island, with cog, freewheel, tires and tubes for ~$130) and, if you have a crank with removable chainring, 5 2mm axle spacers to take up the slack in the chainring bolts.

You don't need a kit.

If you want wheels and a crankset the kit is fine - it will get you down the road. You sound like you want new wheels, front and back. As was said, velomine will set you up. As for cranks, you might be able to use the existing cranks. You need to either take some measurements or triAl and error.

But that takes time. If you want to get going, get the kit; it's fine.

Thanks guys, and I would be buying the white Eighth Inch conversion if I buy it. Just wanted opinions on if there any other obscure brands that provide better deals/items.

I would hope you'd buy it if you bought it. Tough to do anything else.
