Mountain Biking - Hello guys.

Hay guys. I stumbled across this forum when i was looking for local clubs I can race with. My name is Rob and this is my last year in school (before i enter the real world) I swim competitively for my university and am looking to do something competitive after my swim career is over. I raced Bmx when i was younger and did a little street but nothing to involved.

What im looking for here is a good bike to get me started this march. And then progress from there.

Any opinions, options, any anything would be great

We can probably give you a few suggestions of what bike you would want, if we had a few more details

whats your price range?
Hardtail or full sus?
How much do you weigh?

I would say hard tail right now to get started

price range ehh 3-400(i an add more just not willing to invest in the sport until i get my legs back)

im 6'4 180.

or any advice you guys can offer. Im completely new to Mountain Biking (not new to racing though)

well. try going to pawn shops around, check ebay and craiglist.

Like the sticky will tell you, most bikes in this price range will have relatively similar components.

In my opinion, it's most important to get a good frame vs getting better components and compromising frame quality. Components can be upgraded later, it's much more of a pain to upgrade an entire frame.

Craiglist is kinda sketchy..i swear that 75% of the bikes listed are stolen.

Settle down Beavis. Pawn shops can be good provided you know what to look for. Which you don't - yet.

Trek is NOT the end all, be all. Try a variety of bikes. Personally I hate the way Trek's handle and feel. In my opinion they handle like trucks

I've ridden Trek's INCLUDING the 4300. I was less than impressed
