General Cycling Discussion - Bike purchase question Please help

Hello, yesterday I walked into Gold cross cycles and told the sales clerk that I wanted a hybrid for basic riding/commuting and a teeny bit of off roading and he asked which brand and price range? I said I liked the Fuji bikes and wanted a bike around $300 as I'm on a bit of a budget. He recommended either the Fuji Crosstown 2.0 or Fuji Sunfire S. I had a look at both bikes but had a bit of troubled deciding. Me not knowing anything about bikes saw the Fuji Sagers 3.0 and said I like the look of this one (unbeknownst to me at that time this was not a hybrid but a comfort bike). Long story short I bought that bike and checked it out on the website thus discovering it's true identity, it's still in the shop being configured and I am having second thoughts about my decision to buy this bike due to the bit of off roading I'm going to do and feel it may be unsuitable I will be doing. I looked at their return policy which says they wont return if the customer simply changes their mind, so basically the question i wanted to ask is:
Does this constitute as simply changing ones mind and me having too live with this decision for the rest of my bikes life or might i be eligible for an exchange?
Also by off roading i mean riding in grass or riding down rocky/dirt hills and stuff like this nothing hardcore i just need it for simple transportation.

If you have not taken possession of it, and it is still "new", then I would hope they would work with you to switch to a different model.

What does that mean ? Are they making changes to suit you ? Or just normal assembly & adjustments ?

They would probably accept a return despite their policy if the bike hasn't been used and you're actually buying another one from them (as opposed to returning for full refund). But for what you describe, that bike will be fine. You're not actively 'off road cycling', you're just using it for transportation, a bit of which is off road. That bike will be perfectly suitable for that purpose. If you liked the bike better than the other two, keep it and enjoy it.

Some of us ride our skinny tire road bikes on pretty rough dirt roads without a problem. The Fuji Sagers should take a lot of abuse with 26 x 1.95 tires. Those are basically mountain bike wheels without knobby tires.

A bike with shocks will absorb bumps a little better, but shocks are really not good when riding on the road. The real value of shocks is for the sort of trail riding you don't seem to be planning on. All riding involves some bumps and that bike will handle your average urban bumpiness just fine I think.
