Mountain Biking - Trek 6700

I am mainly a road biker, but have started to do a little more mountain biking. I have been using a mid 90's Giant.(no shocks and very uncomfortable) I have a cousin that has a 2004 trek 6700. The bike is in mint condition and been ridden about five times. The only problem is my cousin is a girl and the bike is a women's. She said she would sell it to me for 375 and she paid around 800 for it. Is the deal worth it even though it is a girls bike. Oh, my cousin is over six feet tall so it fits perfectly. thanks

I just looked up on trek's website the differences between the bikes and I can see none except for the saddle, which is woman specific, and the color. Maybe this will give this thread a bump and some other guys will chime it. :)

i don't think trek actually makes the 6700 in a "girls" format. do you just mean a girl has been riding it?

i actually bought my first mountain bike from a former girlfriend. it is a trek 6700. the paint scheme is mostly black with a red rs duke fork and some blue mixed in on the frame. it is a great bike, with good components, and it has stood up to more punishment than it was actually designed to take (many 4ft drops on a regular basis).

if the frame fits you, the bike is in good shape, and it is not pink - then you are getting a great bike for the money.

by the way - my former girlfriend who sold me the bike won many races on it and still routinely smokes my behind on the trails - so who cares if a girl has riding it (as long as it is not pink, or polka-dotted)

Go ride it, if it fits, you've got a serious bargin! My roommate has the same bike and it's solid.

Thanks for the input guys. It is a grey bike with dark red/rust??. I actually like the way the bike looks. Clunger mentioned he didnt think there was a girls 6700, does anyone else know, just curious. thanks for help.

Trek does make a WSD 6700. Here is the model you are talking about. (http://www.trekbikes.com/bikes/2004/mountain/6700wsd.jsp)

It lists for $769 so if she spent $800 on it, she got hosed. Many LBS's will sell under list. Now with that said, she has a women specific design bike. It was designed for a woman, who typically has shorter arms, etc.

This will not be a good fit for you unless you are built like a woman. :eek: Bike fit is the most important aspect to bike selection. It is WAY more important than price. Pass on this one unless you have a wife that is the same size.

I guess you could buy it and try to turn a profit on ebay but unless you are familiar with ebay selling and packaging bikes, it would likely not be worth it. Here (http://search.ebay.com/trek-6700_W0QQsojsZ1QQfromZR40) are a couple that have zero bids on ebay right now. They are not even WSD which will hurt your value even more.

Look at the geometry on the web site, the crank length might be different too. If those are too different than you probably don't fit the bike. But, now that I think about it, I don't think they do make a WSD for a 6' woman. Generally they only have a few small sizes.

Leads me to believe that it is either NOT a WSD or the bike was a terrible fit for the female rider that bought it. The trek website puts women 5' 7" and below on the WSD's. That implies that anyone bigger should be riding a men's frame.

This could easily be resolved if the poster would tell us what frame size the bike is or post a pic.

I've sold numerous WSD bikes to men. Not all of us are the same size and as long as you're not hung up on the WSD, and the bike fits and is comfortable, I say CONGRATS on your new bike.

I just want to know one thing. What's wrong with PINK? I think this frame is KILLER!

It is an 18" frame. I am mainly a roadie, and ride three times a month on average. The bike seems to be fine.
