Foo - Polygraph test.

I don’t want to bore you with the details, but I may be call upon to take a Polygraph test soon. Anybody have any experience and/or tips on defeating one of these? I figure if I run a 10K and drink a bunch of redbull before walking in maybe the numbers will be off the charts. Seriously, I need help.

I've heard telling the truth helps, but I could be wrong...

Try putting a drawing pin under each of your big toes. Whenever they ask a question and you answer it push down on the drawing pins in order to cause pain to yourself. This will, apparently, cause the graph to be consistent no matter whether you're telling the truth or not.

try being honest. I know that's a stretch to most people these days.

The trick is to believe what you say, make up a whole story behind it before hand and receite like crazy. That way, when asked, you won't be "making up" anything on site. Live like george costanza.

I don't have personal experience myself (but my husband does) he is currently interviewing with one of our local police departments here in Denver. He has taken one 3 times. Basically I can tell ya that they have a list of questions that they will ask you before they hook you up to the machine. They will go over all the questions with you and ask you detailed questions about each one. If for any reason they think something might pop up on the test they will go over in detail with you. Bascially it gets any concerns out on the table before you are hooked up. I will tell you that my husband says its very uncomfortable. He is a big guy and he says its alittle hard to breath because they put this belt around you. Just be calm!!! I can't stress this enough. The machine goes off of your emotions. Quick background: I was a mechanic and a customer claimed that we released his Centurion Ironman Master to someone else. His theory was that it was one of the mechanics. Since I was the only mechanic working the night it happened, and I was the one who released the bike, he figured I took it (like I'd want a Centurion Ironman Master when I already owned a Vitus, a Colnago, and an Eddy Merckx). I was asked to take a polygraph, I consented, and I passed. Of course, it helped that I was telling the truth. Like snowy said, they go over the questions with you beforehand, so that you know what to expect, and so they know how you're going to answer. Then they hook up breathing sensors (the belts she mentioned), blood pressure sensor, pulse monitors, and I think pirspiration sensors.

If you didn't do whatever they're testing you for, tell the truth and don't sweat it. If you did, be forthright and honest, the consequences might be mitigated.

Yep, that's the 'traditional' method to beat a polygraph. Unfortunately, many examiners will search you before the test, including your shoes/feet. Just tell the truth.

Fess-up before the test. Nothing makes you a bigger liar than being caught by the polygraph.

I was talking with a guy who uses polygraph tests for investigations. He said that the BEST polygraph operators can detect a "liar" about 50% of the time. When I pointed out that flipping a coin will come up "heads" about 50% of the time, his response was "Well, which sounds more scientific - according to the polygraph, you are lying....versus...according to my flip of a coin, you are lying".

Companies should hire Dionne Warwick instead. After the "Psychic Hotline" failed to forsee its own bankrupcy, she has had a lot of free time.

Do some crystal meth about twenty minutes before they administer the test. And make sure to listen to John Coltrane on a iPod/Discman/Walkman/etc on the way towards the chair.

One point I'd also like to make is that polygraph results are inadmissable in a court of law. It might have something to do with their reliability. I asked the police after I passed mine what would have happened had mine come up 'deceptive' or 'inconclusive' and was told that they would have used the results as a basis for further interrogation.

Try this: Nod your head up and down and say, "No". Nod your head left and right and say, "Yes". Practise Practise Practise.

Get yourself some representation a Lawyer!! and ask if they can be present during the polygraph. It's always good to have some back up.

I took a few Polygraphs in my life for jobs. It basically works on your heart rate and usually when people lie, their heart rate goes up. I agree with telling the truth, but if you are a calm person, you can pass it regardless..

Polygraphs are literally the easiest thing to beat. Just be 10000000% sure that you believe(I mean, literally believe that whatever your lie is, is what happen) your own lie and they can't, i repeat, CAN'T tell you your lying.

Well, it is for work so alcohol and illegal substances are not a viable option because if I do manage to pass or have the test be inconclusive I don’t want them to nail me on the booze or drugs. I have studied that “beat polygraph” site and I that’s the best route to go.

You know I failed my first poly? Dropped my pressure to near nothing. Taking 1 (one) breath every 3 mins. They thought I was doing it on purpose. ( I was) but they were later convinced by me (good liar? :rolleyes: ) that I did not mean to control my breathing to lower pressure and slow heart rate... :D

Impossible for me that is. There's no way I can exhale once every three minutes. Besides, just replying to their questions will cause one to exhale.

It's not something you can work on. Like I said. So long as you have literally convinced yourself that what you are telling them is the truth(in your head), then you will be fine. Since I was 14, I have told myself that I have a 9 1/4 in. deal. Not a girl in the world has yet to convince me I am lying.
