Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Wet weather prep

Seems that Seattle rain's finally showing up. I'm wondering what I should do to get my bike ready (parts to drip 3IN1 oil on/in? thicker chain lube?). I did a search here but most threads I found were about roadie post-rain measures (wash, dry, lube, massage, hot toddies, a nice movie). I'll be dealing with that from time to time but I'm looking for more prophylactic measures.

FWIW, I don't expect to do more than 30 miles a week in the rain but my bike will be locked up from time to time.

I reapply every 2 years.

If you really want to get into it, disassemble your bike down to the bearings and re-grease with a marine grade grease. Not much you can do with a cartridge BB other than remove, grease threads, re-install. If you got cartridge bearings in wheels and headset, schmear grease all over the outside of them; if you have sealed bearings in races or just loose bearings, re-pack with fresh grease.

Switch to wet lube. That's all.

What about brake pivots and whatnot?

this. just wipe down your chain every now and then and throw some lube on there when it starts to squeak. buy a new chain in the summer.

less lube/grease = less places for dirt/grime to stick to.

Drop of oil at all the pivot points every now and then. Don't forget the end of the spring where it slides against a brake arm. Replace your cables and housing in the Spring if they rust over the winter...

Brake pivots? Maybe, I don't worry about it though. Paul brakes with sealed bearings I will grease, but that open bushing stuff is just gonna get washed out. By locked up you mean outside right?

As for what nots, other than brakes, there are no what nots!

Don't use 3-in-1 on anything, though (that stuff is garbage). Use Tri-Flow.

Ceramic wet on the chain and a couple of drop of tri-flow on the brake cable.

Also dress warmer than you need to.
