Met this neat couple on Cape Hatteras, NC, as they were making their way to New Orleans. They started from Montreal, three months ago. Roughly, they have traveled 850 miles and figure they have about 1,200 more to go.

I don't know a lot about touring, but these rigs sure did look heavy! Also, he biked in rubber sandals, she in tennis shoes (with no toe clips), and neither had bike shorts or gloves. I was surprised to see front fork shocks on both bikes but, again, I don't know too much about touring or touring bikes.

Both were super nice, and communicated well even though they were new to our language. They seemed to be having a great time, especially as they rode the ferry from Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke Island. Probably a nice respite from the rigors of touring!

As you've noticed, you can tour on most anything. When you're averaging less than 10 miles a day, you really don't need to worry about weight or have specialized gear.
