im going to get this fork and was wondering it says it is a coil sprung fork (which is what i want) but it also says something about air under dampening so will i need an air pump?

it has an air preload chamber in the right leg to make it stiffer. you dont need a pump to ride it, though. you take the risk of bottoming the fork if it isnt stiff enough.

ok but as im pretty dam light (just under 100 pounds) i should be alright without the air right?

I have dj3's and they have air chambers on both sides. If your under 100 pounds i dont think you will have a problem with stiffness.

you wont hvae a problem with stiffness on any fork at that weight.

depends on how big of jumps you are doing. im not sure if they make softer springs for the DJ series. for th Z1 series, they dont make softer springs, so i took out the right side spring and ran air, as marzocchi suggested. i like the feel of air on the right, because it is a very progressive spring which prevents bottoming. its plush through the initial stroke, but it ramps up near the top.
btw. i weigh 120#
