I have recently been enjoying what wonderful television that seems to be produced in Britain. One of the series I have been enjoying is Midsomer Murders which among other aspects seems to show a very positive portrayal of bicycling as a mode of transportation. On one of the episodes I have recently viewed, which has a strong subplot concerning bicycling advocacy, a strange looking bike. Can anyone tell me what the bike is and who makes it?

For this episode http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1447354/, the subplot includes a bicycle advocate who throws paint on the cars of offensive drivers. A number of group rides are significant parts of the plot, and even one of the lead detectives starts commuting to work to get ready for a charity ride.

Ditto - Moulton Spaceframe bike.

Just one suggestion: never move to Midsomer, road sign "Welcome to Midsomer County, population 383,213, ...212, ... 210, ...207,..."

Yes, for such a small town, they have an astoundingly high murder rate!

And when's the last time that they only had one murder at a time. They always come in multiples.

While I understand the jokes (it is a drama after all), this is one of the few television shows I have scene that has routinely (I believe nearly every episode) shows someone actually riding a bike to get to and fro...

Indeed from my recent exploration of british television, it seems that you'll are much more likely to show folks riding a bicycle for transportation. Another example is one of the lead characters on "New Tricks" is regularly shown with the bicycle (and helmet :)) he uses to commute to work.

And of course they portray poor Brian as an odd ball because he's a cyclist.

Or he's a cyclist because he's an oddball. It's the smart ones that always go off.

The new series The Midwife shows them getting around on bicycles, nice fully enclosed chain guards and all. Too much screaming and too many pregnant women and new born babies for me though. One episode was more than I needed.

Yeah I know, what did I expect after seeing the title?

Actually, all of the male ex detectives seem to be something of an oddball, each in their own way...

In Last of the Summer Wine last night the 3 main characters were out on bicycles.

Watching these British tv shows almost fools me into thinking that they really do have decent weather there, when in fact it rains more often than it does here. I keep telling myself that, anyway.

Falls City OR mean average rainfall = 67.2in
City of Leeds (UK) ditto = 26in

Annual average days wearing raingear on commute (me) 20ish. But in eastern rain shadow of Pennine range of hills. West of Pennines a bit different
