I afraid the "mow the lawn" phrase can have many inuendos and Couch is very vague at times.

Rusty blades are the way to go. Oh and get a nice good swinging start. Don't worry, it's not like you're going to lop off something important or that you'll use again.

My wife mowed our back yard and parkways. I still need to weedeat and figure out what to do where the border collie is tearing up the grass by the corner where she likes to bark at walkers. I may have to put the bark collar on her.

I'm in the process of buying my first house. That means come spring I'm going to have to buy my first lawn mower. Any recommendations? I my yard isn't big enough to warrant a riding mower (plus there's enough trees in the back that the larger turning radius of a riding mower would be a pain in the ass).

You will not go wrong with a Honda. I love mine. NEVER takes more than two pulls to start. Two years old and runs like the day I bought it. Hondas receive top marks by Consumer Reports on a very consistent basis. The Toro machines get the next highest marks according to consumer reports. Get the Toro with Honda engine, not the Briggs.

When I was growing up my parents had a Simplicity riding mower that you could take the mower deck off to put a rototiller or snowblower on. That sucker has to be as old as I am (30's) and they still use it. Like I said I don't need anything that powerful, but I sure wish they made them like that these days. Honda and Toro you say? Might have to look into those. Is Toro the one that's famous for saying no to Walmart?

Not sure. I just know that I had a John Deere with a Briggs and it was hard to start, died easy in heavy grass, bogged in medium grass, smoked and drank oil, stayed out late, ate my food and kicked my dogs.

The Honda does none of those things. My 8 year old can start it. A bit spendy but not bad. The Toros seemed a bit lighter, stamped decks vs cast deck, etc. The Honda also has some sort of Quad cut system that uses two blades on one shaft to get finer mulching. I cannot say enough about how pleased I am with the Honda.

All I know is I want one with a mower, we have one of those non-powered ones that you push and the blades whirl at the house we're renting now I and I know I want something with more oomph than that.

I bought a Worx 36V 19" battery operated mower. It does an amazing job. At our old house with a 9,000 sqft lot, I was able to mow the entire thing twice on one battery charge. The local Lowes carried them so I could look at it, but I ended up buying it through Amazon as it was cheaper.

I didn't get the self-propelled model. From what I understand, the self-propelled is heaver and really drains the battery when in use.

Our yard is on a corner that slopes to the street at both sides. Self propelled is a must have. The Honda system has thumb levers that the further you press them the faster the mower goes. And the levers are easily adjustable for different hand postions.

Also, the model I bought has a blade brake, so engine will run without blade spinning. You have to push in a safetly button an then pull up and hold a lever to engage the blade. Makes it nice when you are bagging to not ahve to stop and start the mower each time.

Back to the OP, Couch, don't just mow it, slash and burn. Use harsh chemicals to burn off all the turf and teach it a lesson so it never comes back. Just be careful when it comes to sensitive surfaces. Chemical burns are a *****.

MY GF has a Toro with the personal pace system, and it works great. You just push a little harder and it goes faster, very easy to use.

The Briggs and Stratton engines don't have an oil pump, skip that choice if your yard isn't flat.
