Haters gonna hate... but having beers on an open bar with 65f was a challenge fo me. 65f is way bellow puertorican standard operating temperatures. I don't care is New York is full of "puertiricans"... those are not *true* 100% puertoricans. Those are americanized newyoricans... different thing. Standard Puertorrican models like myself are built for 79f-109f operating ranges.

I,m thinking of inviting Rube up to the nephew's cabin for New years.. They celebrate by having a sauna and running out into the snow and rolling in it. Last year it was -20C (-10F) and they cut a hole into the 1 1/2 foot ice on the lake and went swimming.







I figure that if the Rubester reads this the boys are sucked up real tight andif he were to come and participate in the festivities the boys would head for the deep dark hills of Peutro Rica and the misses wouldn't have to worry about him "mowing the lawn" for years. :roflmao2:

Ruben, after a decade in the 'show me 101% humidity' state, I have to agree with you. I waited until the temps crept over 75 degrees today before hitting the road on my bike. I can deal with 90 better than 50 now. Of course, when I lived up north, 50 felt pretty good.

The frost line there is only 12-18" and mostly sand so covering yourself in a kitty litter box should provide the same effect with less effort on your part.

It is all relative. I grew up in the southeast and got sent to Alaska. A couple years of that and your cold benchmark moves considerably. After a winter of -50, got sent to Korea for a month. My buds and I are walking around with temps in the mid-20s and 30s with our summer jackets on and hitting the golf course. Some guys from the Philippines are in parkas, mukluks, and those giant gauntlet gloves.

I haz new idea... I'll start by taking 2 jackets, one medium (for inner layer) and one large (for outer layer). Then I can get lots of flexible piping/tubing, like the ones used for fish tanks, and glue it or something, between the jackets. Add a battery powered water pump and rig some portable propane heater with a thermal exchange and I'll have an actively heated jacket. Same tech used for heated floors but *mobile*... I should had been an engineer!

Sounds interesting. If you catch yourself on fire with the propane, at least you'll have water to put the fire out then the water freezes which soothes the burnt areas. Be sure to video this operation.

It was 53f this morning. My son was kinda slow on the situation awareness, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. I couldn't resist the urge to troll and asked him to take out the trash, lol. He leaved the bag in mid yard and ran back in to change clothes.

It was like that in school for me too. One day the Canadians were wearing shorts and sandals, the southerners were wearing what passed for a wniter coat for them, and they all wondered how the weather changed so fast.

Don't let 'em give you a hard time - I'm a Swede myself but dont' have the layers of fat to keep me warm when temps get that low. Better above 70!

Dang! 45f tonight! And I haven't yet refilled my propane tank.

Grew up in Northeast Jersey and loved the colder weather. Moved to the Ft Lauderdale area 20 years ago and now find it "challenging" to head out on the bike one it drops below 50. Yeah, yeah... wuss... I get it and I don't disagree but it is what it is. What I find amusing about cycling down here, however, is that once it drops below 70, every group ride is like a costume party. Everything from full winter gear to sleeveless jerseys and everything in between. When it's in the 50's, they all look like Randy from 'A Christmas Story' waddling down the snowy street in his parka. Hysterical.

If I have to wear more than a long sleeved base layer, jersey and long legged bibs for a ride, then I'm out. It's just miserable.

I'll try to be positive this winter... focusing on the few good things about cold weather. Like for example, being able to eat a chocolate bar in central Florida without getting your fingers full of melted chocolate.

Or just think of all the extra snuggling you get to do. For me, I love the winter because that means I get to have an extra blanket on my bed without wasting tons of money on AC and I just sleep better with an extra blanket and the heavy quilt on top of me.
