Manufacturer, Retailer, Survey and Consumer Feedback - Commuter Bike Design! Georgia Institute of Technology

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hey guys, this survey is for the commuters! I am working with a team of industrial designers at Georgia Tech to design a new commuter bike and we are currently doing research, gathering information, and making observations. If you take the time to answer a few questions for us we will greatly appreciate it and I promise to return with pictures of our final design in 2 months.

As per the rules of the survey forum:
1. We are doing this as an educational bicycle design project at the Georgia Institute of Technology
2. I am one member out of a group of three Georgia Tech students
3. It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, at most.
4. We plan to gain insights as to what commuter's needs are.
5. We plan to evaluate the needs and address them in new ways in the from of a full scale commuter bike prototype.
6. I would love to post the results, as well as pictures of our project and final prototype.

Thank you!

Thanks for the replies everyone! It's been particularly nice to receive suggestions for things like dynamo lights and the new SRAM 1x11 drivetrain. We are being generously sponsored by SRAM for this project so that may be a real option!

One thing I'm interested in that has not been well worded in the survey question is: are any of you using parts in a way other than the manufacture has suggested or modified/rigged them to function better for your needs? If so, please describe it in this thread and post pics if you have them! Thanks
