Hurricane Sandy has made a mess of NYC and NJ. It's affected transit systems in a bad way. I am watching the tube right now and see endless lines of cars trying to make it over the bridge to Manhattan with a HOV restriction of 3 passengers, as well as confused / angry:mad: lines of people waiting to catch multiple shuttle buses which are replacing underground trains. As I watch the frustrated efforts of people trying to get to work I can't help but thinking bicycles / push scooters would help a LOT of transit issues??? The weather is certainly nice right now.

If I get better* today I might try and venture out on the MTB to see what traffic looks like.

Took a quick walkies. I take it back. :( Unless you're adept at weaving between cars, buses and peds.....

I have never seen so much vehicular traffic in my two decades of living in Manhattan. It is gruesome.

That sounds like what bikes are best at!

True! I took another short walk and saw business -like guys and gals riding their carbon bikes. That's usually reserved for the weekends, or after work hours. Here's a shot from the afternoon. I'll have to get out there earlier in the morning when it is a complete cluster. Mid day everybody has probably gotten to where they need to go.

Here's a shot near Bloomingdale's department store. 281465

Blame it on Sandy, At the moment. After ALL of the cleanup is finished(including getting the water out of the subway stations in Lower Manhattan), then New Yorkers can go back to complaining about the city's congestion.

OP, you missed the best time to ride your bike. It was Tuesday afternoon, right after the super storm. Windy, rainy and cold, but it was one of the best rides I had because there were few cars, few bikes, and few people anywhere you go. :D
