I've been pushing it this last week just to see how to plan the next couple of months training. i haven't pushed it too hard, about 20% above what i'd normally do and i find my sleeping pattern is gone haywire this week. i am terribly tired but once i go to bed i can't sleep or else i wake up really early and stuff. anyway, i took yesterday and i'm taking today off for a bit of r&r.
is it a common feature of pushing it bit harder than normal to loose some sleep?

One symptom of overtraining is having a problem with sleep. Maybe you're increasing your training too fast too soon?

No more than 10% training increase at a time. When you adapt to the new training schedule, then you can increase by 10% again. Etc. etc etc.

Interesting....when I go hard I want to sleep more. Sounds like overtraining.

usually i'm the same, i sleep really well but not this week. my legs feel fine, not sore or anything but i've been wired going to bed. anyway, lie in tomorrow and not pushing it as hard next week. i have a heart rate monitor ordered so once i get my zones figured out it should help me plan my workouts a bit better.

do you have other stresses in your life that might be making sleep difficult? I also think it's a good idea to cut back on training a bit. However, it might be good too to think about ways to relax - meditation is something that helps me, for example.

blah blah blah. The same thing is said over and over there has to be a better way to train.
