Introductions - Greetings from Indian Wells, California

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Even though I have a few posts already, I have yet to formally introduce myself.

I'm a retired real estate broker from Silicon Valley. I retired to the desert about 10 years ago, and only miss Northern California during the hot summer months here when the temperatures here routinely hover around 110° or so.

While I've really always had bicycles, I only recently took up riding as a form of exercise. I find it a most enjoyable way to stay fit, and look forward to my rides as a means of entertainment. I've disassociated it with the drudgery of most other exercise regimens, and get out as often as possible. I've managed to lose about 50 lbs. since I started riding in earnest about 9 months ago.

Since joining this forum, I've become interested in restoring a vintage bike, and have purchased a 1986 Fuji Opus III for that purpose.

My main ride is a Giant Defy 2 Composite, and I have a Specialized Rockhopper Hardtail 29er, although I rarely ride it. I also have an older Stumpjumper, roughly 20 years old that I want to restore.

There are 3 other bikes out in the garage, including a Townie I bought for my wife. In 6 months, it has maybe 20 miles on it. Enough said.

Anyway, hello everyone.

Welcome to the newbies section. I used to do computer programs back in the 1980's in Inyokern (sp?) for a Navy project at China Lake. I love your area. Can't imagine riding a bike there, however. I hope to make it back some day for a visit. 68 years old and lost 50 pounds biking over the past few years.

Nice collection of bikes. What about golf clubs, Indian Wells is perfect for both four letter words, golf and bike! Welcome aboard from Las Vegas.

Welcome aboard from Las Vegas.I live within a mile of at least 4 golf courses, and just a couple blocks from one in particular. Sadly,I don't play the game, and don't own any clubs, although we do own a golf cart.

We have a couple courses around here. Most of the golf carts are used for running to the Frozen Yogurt outlet.

Are you riding the Palm Springs century in February?

Are you riding the Palm Springs century in February?Extremely unlikely, but I might try the 25-mile ride. It's certainly within my current abilities, and maybe even the 55-mile leg will be doable by then.

Hmmm. Now you have me interested.

Please check in with the 50+ thread. Great people there and interest in doing that ride. Might be a chance to meet people from Bike forum. There will be riders of all levels. I have never ridden down there. Some riders have warned about the winds in the afternoon. A few years ago it VIVAbikeVegas sparked my interest and helped me move my riding to a next level.

Well, then, I might just do that. Thanks.
