Supposedly, this book was profiled in Bicycle Magazine as a good read. It's about a guy who went for being obese and lazy to a super racer of sorts.

If you read this book, please share your opinion.

I thought it was a good read. My wife's not even into cycling, and she enjoyed it too.

He is to be commended on setting an extremely tough goal for himself and succeeding, but he does some really stupid stuff to get there. Let's just say that I wouldn't recommend his approach. :) Just so you know, he wasn't only obese, but also a borderline alcoholic (I don't recall him saying the A word, but he does admit he had a drinking problem). If you've seen the cover, that really is him before he started his program.

I thought he was a pretty humorous writer too.

I happen to agree with Bicycle Magazine's opinion, but just as a disclaimer they were definitely going to give it a good review because the author is a regular contributor to the mag.

So, as a beginner, it would not be advisable to use this book as an instruction manual?

:roflmao:

This product is for entertainment purposes only. ;)

On the off chance that you're serious, it is good for some inspiration to think about next time you're struggling up a hill.

Wonderful book, I have read it 2x. I am a big guy who happens to love a little guys sport so I related to it a lot. I read it constantly, a few pages here and there, to keep me motivated to lose weight. There is a section in the book, about how no one wants to be the slowest at a sport they love, its like a whole paragraph but that is the main point, I typed it on word printed it out and hung it on my fridge and in front of my trainer.

But it is for entertainment purposes only? Hummm.

That's too bad. I just purchased a Trek3500 for my husband who is 297lbs, 6'3". He loves to bike so I thought I would use this sport as his gateway to better health.

Well, perhaps I will buy it anyway. Problem is, my husband is an extremist. He might try the thing in the book anyway!

He tried to do a wheely that last time he rode a bike -last summer.

To the contrary. As a beginner I would say this is the PERFECT book to use as your instruction manual. HOWEVER (note the all caps), I would not follow any of the dietary habits. Mr. Magnuson is clearly a man of extremes. He even says at some point in the book that he should have talked to a Dr. before doing his thing, and that Dr. would have told him not to go about it the way he did.

When I say this book is the PERFECT book, I only say that because it helped start my obsession which is going on seven months now, and it just got a good friend of mine to stop over eating, stop drinking, and smoking. That was two months ago.

Enjoy.
