Mountain Biking - Help i've got a crazy disease

I can't stop going down to the bike shop and spending money! I ordinarily hate shopping with a capital H, but when it comes down to the LBS, its a completely different matter. I just popped in this morning for a browse and came out £103 poorer, with several parts on order :eek:

Is this a well documented disease i wonder, has anybody a cure, coz im not sure if my bank balance can take much more! Please help!! :D

This is a much recorded problem, you are not alone...I myself suffer from such a disease, and the only cure is to hand over your cash point cards and credit cards to your loved ones....

Hehe, failing that, the only other course of action is to buy a bike that doesn't need upgrading :D

I suffer from the same affliction, if you'd call that suffering. :D

My wife is no help either in ridding myself of this dreaded disease. She always reminds me to take the checkbook when I'm headed out the door to the LBS.

I have a Jeep and 3 Bikes, plus I pay for school. So as much as I would like to have this disease I'm stuck with the.. Should I buy used parts for the Jeep and new for the bike, or New for the Jeep and used for the bike. LOL

me i have no money (student with out a job at this time )
:( so for me it is not so much when i get there i buy alot, when i get there i wish to buy tons of stuff. Most of the time when i do have some money i get stuff that i really need.

oh well i have time to get infected with the other disease! :)

sadly, the bike industry makes sure that there is no bike u can buy that doesn't need mountain biking, or will within a few months.

I have the same problem. I stay away from the Cycle shop until I cannot stand it any more. My affliction comes in the form of credit card purchases. One day I will just bite the bullet and purchase the Fisher sug +3 or something of the sort.

You've got to experiment a little :) - I'm on my third front mudguard this year, and of course you have to buy a new one for the rear to match the front, and a new seatpost bag because ...

There is no cure :D

Hi, I'm David, and i also am a bike-a-holic. I fear to tell you that the only cure for this disease is to either burn down your lbs, or even death. Giving ALL your money to charity works too.

You guys make this sound as if its a bad thing. Problem? What problem?? I don't have a problem and niether do any of you. So go ahead and look at all the goodies everytime you visit your local LBS. If you end up on the street beacuse of your "affliction" then yeah you got a problem.

the only problem i see is that most of the parts i want are WAY cheaper on the 'net, than at the LBS. as much as i want to support the LBS i can't justify spending that much more $$$.
and yes, i am a cheapskate. i do buy small things at the LBS when i really need them but big things, like cranksets and derailleurs, and such, are sometimes as much as 50-60% more at the LBS. they are always willing to come down in price but it is still more expensive.
i know about overhead and accounts payable/receivable and all that, and i'm sorry. and i'm rambling. am i making any sense, or just getting everyone mad at me? i'm sorry.
but i do also suffer from bike parts buyitis. my girlfriend makes fun of me. oh well...

i get a discount at the lbs that makes it slightly cheaper than the net i.e. i dont have to pay postage, which just makes things worse now i tend to choose stuff on the net and buy at the lbs but then ill get down there and they'll have something new on display and ill suddenly be drawn in to make another spur of the moment purchase.

oh on a side note whats the cheapest net store you guys have found (preferably in the UK/ Europe) http://www.wiggle.co.uk, is the cheapest i have found. Plus you can rig up a link from your own website to their site and get yourself 10% commission on everying that YOU spend, great huh!

damn there i go again thinking oooh its 10% cheaper therefore i must buy it because..... ermmm, because.... well... help its happening again my haands are taking over and as we speak typing my card number in at the checkout, dammit there goes another £300, damn hands, must get a grip.......

ADAZE, I have the same disease, I need bike accesories at all times, as far as I know there is no cure, my problems usually start after I leave the shop, as I remember something I forgot to get, and this is usually how it start for me. I hope they find a cure soon, before I'm broke :beer:

The missus and I are adopting a new system to combat this dreaded wallet-sucking illness. We have a large glass jug into which we pitch all of our spare coinage. It's the bike jug. Anything further spent toward gear for our bikes must be removed from the jug. If the jug should become full, someone in the household gets a new bike! :D

Sounds good in theory, anyway...

well i've figured out a way to control this for a minute.
have you're wife/girlfriend lose the credit card. then call the CC company and have them terminate the card's service. then have them send you a new one...
oh well, there's always the checkbook...
