Hello All,
As you will notice by my user name I'm Bikeukeguy from Portland. I like bikes and I like Ukes. My family has been involved in bikes since the early 1880's. My great grandfather started riding and racing High Wheeler's in the early 1880's, and the typical ride back then was a weekend jaunt from Palo Alto,CA the city Stanford University sits next to Paso Robles a bit north of San Luis Obispo, CA. He then opened the first Dealership for Columbia Bicycles in Palo Alto. This morphed into a general sporting goods store and eventually Columbia was switched for Schwinn.
My first real bike as a Schwinn Varsity. A tank.
I eventually discovered mini bikes then small displacement dirt bikes. I fondly remember blasting through orchards on my Bultaco. I stayed with motorcycles for quite awhile. Both wrenching on and riding them.
Later in life I took up Mountain Biking with a brand new Gary Fisher HK2 and rode all over the Santa Cruz hills on it. I got a fat bonus check from work and dropped some serious change on a Sycip Hardtail and started racing. That lead to CX racing on an early Kelly. Right now I own a Soma Saga and started touring out of Portland.
I repair bikes for the fun of it. Right now I am restoring a 1986 Trek 400 for my brother. I am currently doing upgrades with what I term Quality Retro Parts. Try to find a 126mm wheelset. No problem VO to the rescue. Currently hunting for a Shimano 600 Arabesque set of deraileurs and shifters in less than crazy prices.
I also love and build Ukuleles.
