I received my Uncle John frameset yesterday and I need a set of wheels. Are WTB Laserdisc 29er wheels acceptable? Seem to be 27mm.
Thoughts or other suggestions? Used wheels are at a premium where I live. FWIW I am a small cylde (227lbs - 103.7kg). Thanks.

27mm wide rim and 32mm wide Cross Tire Should be OK..

if the frame wont fit anything wider..

ie not a 29er frame.. [no clue as to who uncle John is]

did you buy the WTB laser TCS wheels from chainlove by chance? I picked up a set for $209 and want to messaround with tubeless CX tires. looking for recommendations on tires. I'm also a clyde but closer to 250 so I'm wondering if that is a no no for tubeless or not. I don't race cx, but i commute all year round and I want a 2nd set of wheels on my disc trucker that have some knobbiness for snow and for the occassional times I want to take it out on some dirt trails. I also don't want to have to remove the fenders so thats why i'm thinking cx tires vs mtb

any wheel designed for 29er use should be plenty strong for cx purposes. only issue is that you need to have a cx frame/fork combo with disc tabs since those laser disc wheels wont have a brake track for using canti's

Shouldnt be an issue. I have a mavic a719 rear wheel, i think its 25mm and can fit a 42 conti xcross tire no problem on my uncle john. As long as you got the kaffenback fork should be good to go with that wheelset.

Cross Racing?
Given Sew-up tired wheels are still the way to go,
ought to be lots of old Rims, on 60s road racing wheels
to rebuild around new type Cassette hubs.

Got some steep, curvy roads here too, and don't want to roll a tubie at 45+mph...

If that is what worries you, your chances of rolling a tubbie going downhill are smaller than flatting your front clincher and having that go flying off.

Jus' sayin'.

I think Joey hit the barrier at about 45 mph. FWIW, it looked like his tubie was fine.
