What will i need to single speed my 05 kona shred? I want just a single cog in the back like bmx style... and no bulk like deraileurs, i know how to fit a chain to vertical drop outs. do i need spacers for a cog or freewheel? I have a cassette hub (freehub)...

You'll need a tensioner.

You can use the spacers in cassettes to space the cog at the back or you can but special SS spacers. I think you'll need two cassettes worth of spacers if your doing it that way though.

You'll need spacers and a cog. I ended up having to buy a couple sizes of spacers to get my chainline correct. I found 2mm and 4.5mm spacers at biketoolsetc.com.
Figure out what gearing you want beforehand by doing run-ups with only one gear. Buy one of the cheap Novatec cogs until you decide you like it, then bump up to a wider cog, or you'll wear into your freewheel body over time.

thanks... i think i am gunna run it with out a tensioner and just make the chain perfect length.

That could end up very tricky if you've got vertical dropouts. It might work but you'll probably have to end up getting some sort of tensioner, or use an old derailler.
