Mountain Biking - which pedals

I use shimano 515 pedals now. But i'm thinking of getting one of the flat/spd pedal combos so i can piddle aroound here at the house w/ flat shoes practicing wheelies and all. I want to be able to click in on either side also.Anyone have any experience on any of these pedals?

Are you talking about the platform/clip combo? I just went to my LBS and talked to him about those.. I was looking at the Shimano 646's as I liked the idea of being able to ride them with regular shoes as well... he turned me away from them because basically its a PITA to clip in with those pedals because the platform gets in the way. I haven't tried them for myself, but I took his word (hes a national champ) and ordered myself a set of the 515's for $30... wayyyyy cheaper than those 646's!

Yeah i had been thinking of the 545 or 646 pedals.My lbs basically told me the same thing. I was just hoping someone knew of one that did work well. I was trying to relern myself to do wheelies and i busted my butt while clipped in.soooo.........

Just a thought, but why not just buy a cheap pair of regular pedals for practicing wheelies and such? Since you say it'll be mostly at your house practicing wheelies, I wouldnt trade off the off-road usability of the pedal just so I can practice wheelies.. I would just buy a cheapo pair of pedals to practice that on and use the rest of the money for another pair of clipless if you don't like the 515's... just a thought :D

I've got a pair of the 646's and have never had any trouble clipping in. The thing I didn't like about them was I could feel the SPD mechanism if my shoes were too soft.

Those pedals arent made to be used with regular shoes. They are made for clipless shoes, and the cage gives a larger contact area for more hardcore riding. So dont buy them if you want to use regular shoes, because it feels almost the same as when you ride with tegular shoes and clipless pedals.
