Im looking for a reccomendation of some good spd compatible shoes. I just got some time atac pedals and need some shoes for them. I bike to school and around town everyday during the school year. During the summer I do alot of heavy riding. Im looking for shome stiff shoes that i can still walk in.

I use my Sidi mountain bike shoes for commuting. I have Sidi road bike shoes that fit and function very well. So, when it came time to get mountain bike shoes I got the same with the walking sole. They have worked perfectly for commuting.

Oh, I'm not sure what model they are. They look like road shoes with gray tread on the bottom. :)
Sidi Dominators? They are basically the same as the Sidi Genius shoes but with actual treads on the bottom instead of that little rubber tab, lol.

Have you looked at the Shimano shoes? They have several styles of SPD....some are even pretty cool to walk in.
For lighter riding in warm weather try the Shimmano SPD compatible sandals.

I wear shimano mountain bike shoes, and when I say wear I mean they are my main shoes. They're really walkable, especially with eggbeaters. The cleat is so tiny it doesn't even make contact with the ground. Oh and did I mention they're cheap?
If you want to throw a bit more money around I'd recommend the Sidi Dominators, my roomate has them and they're a bit more durable and have a ratcheting closure so you can get em on nice and tight.

I can recommend the Specialized Sport Mountain Shoe. Good for riding, good for walking, and great value for money.
I've been rinding and walking in the mountains in Austria - they were great.

I will say that relative to other big companies, Specialized does know how to make an inexpensive shoe light. The Specialized Sport Road is silly light for the money, I bought it for my first road shoe. One warning though, the straps are far too long for anyone's feet.... no on has arches so high they need that. The Sport Mtn is a similar good deal, but I already had mtb shoes.
Companies like Sidi are known for high-end equipment, it's not part of their market model to let the cheaper stuff be light. 04 model Adidas MTB shoes finally got it, after a number of years of really heavy soles.
I will also opine that Shimano MTB shoes last a long time.

I am using some Specialized Sport mtb shoes that I got on clearance for $10 on the Specialized website about 3 years ago. I picked up a couple of pair at the time. You don't need anything fancy for commuting.
If anyone wears size 12/12 1/2 I have some beautiful Northwave mtb and road shoes. One pair used a bit I will send for the actual cost of shipping the others just a few bucks. Sizes 47 (generous 12 fit) and 48 (very generous 12 to 12 1/2, probably even 13). There is nothing wrong with the shoes. They are quite comfortable except that something about the design aggrevates an old metatarsal injury on my right foot. PM me if interested.

Shimano MO38 are a good compromise for commuting.
Stiff enough for pedalling, flexy enough for walking.

Agreed! But also for cold weather with wool and waterproof socks. I've done centuries in them and quite a bit of single track as well.

I'm a big fan of the Specialized Rockhopper Comp: good shoe, doesn't lok stupid off-bike, and it takes the ATAC cleat nicely too.

I am the aforementioned roommate with the Sidi Dominators. I love them to absolute DEATH. I fear the day I will walk out the sole (that's what shoe goo is for!). They are easy to walk in, but super stiff for riding, and they get REALLY snug (if you want). I also really like the way they look, and have gotten comments about them (from non cyclists). They cost a lot ($120), but I can't imagine a better fitting shoe, except the Sidi Dragons ($250) with the replacable soles. The Shimano shoes are a good compromise if you have "regular" sized feet (I have skinny feet), as they're not as tightly fitting. They're also much, much cheaper and nearly as nice looking (but I just love the way cycling shoes look).
Anyway, that's my 2c.

Diadora geko mtn shoes. Got them for under $5 at goodwill, practically new. They have recessed cleat and fit good.
If I didn't get them so cheap, i'd probably buy some shoes with recessed cleats that look more like regular shoes, just for errand running and such. But at $5, I couldn't pass them up and I can't justify spending money on new shoes just yet.
